Ateneo 500@150 Telethon
The Ateneo Alumni Scholars Association (AASA) is an active agent in raising funds for scholarships through scholars who have graduated. For its sesquicentennial project, it has paired with the Office of Admission and Aid (OAA), Office of University Development and Alumni Relations (OUDAR), The Women of the Ateneo (TWA), the Sanggunian ng Mag-Aaral ng Ateneo (Sanggunian), and the Ateneo Alumni Association (AAA). Collectively, these groups will be known as the Ateneo Telethon Team (AT&T).
The Ateneo Telethon Team believes in creating a big project that would directly solicit scholarship support. We plan to emphasize that an Atenean who gets financial support turns out to be a major player in nation building. Though the Ateneo scholarship requires more resources, it is still the best investment by far for any donor. The Ateneo 500@150 Telethon Team will take part in this year’s Sesquicentennial Countdown event on December 7, 2009 through the Ateneo 500@150 Telethon.
On December 7, we will set up a telethon operation within the Ateneo Loyola Heights Campus. We will have forty (40) regular telethon seats that will be manned by Ateneo Alumni on a rotation and scheduled basis. These alumni are expected to call batchmates, friends, and relatives and use their own phone directories to solicit pledges for donations. Every alumni volunteer is expected to field calls in the one-hour time slot allotted to him or her. We will actively select these alumni and focus on high profile and highly successful Ateneans who are leaders in their own field.
We will webcast the entire Ateneo 500@150 Telethon event. Also, if sponsors allow, we intend to have the Ateneo 500@150 Telethon telecast. We will select a media partner who will agree to present us every hour or two hours as a commercial snippet format. In that televised snippet, we will present high profile alumni volunteers calling their fellow alumni and friends. In the execution, we will present how the Ateneo Alumni, especially scholars, are now pillars of nation building.
The effort will require a dedicated back office. Alumni volunteers will accomplish pledge forms and will turn them over to the Secretariat who will handle the donation fulfillment. The Secretariat will also manage the Lounge where Fr. Bievenido Nebres, SJ and other University officials will receive alumni volunteers as they wait for their slot at the call operations area. A telecom partner is also expected to provide the wireless landlines and sponsor the television coverage.
The Ateneo 500@150 Telethon Team wants to do something big. Having a huge activity will not only give justice to Ateneo’s many achievements but will also allow us to reach the 500 scholarships target. By highlighting the Ateneo alumni’s achievement while we solicit for donations through the Ateneo 500@150 Telethon, we will be meeting the Sesquicentennial objectives with flying colors. Ten percent (10%) of the 500@150 Telethon proceeds will be donated to Ateneo’s rehabilitation work with typhoon victims.
